U.S. Squad Ready to Impact World Cup 2010 Odds

The United States 23-man team for the World Cup has been determined and the U.S. is expected to make some noise in world cup 2010 probabilities.

How the United States does in World Cup gambling may be based on their starting match vs England.

There are several familiar names on the 23-man roster that United States coach Bob Bradley detailed on Wednesday. There are several new people including Edson Buddle and Herculez Gomez, and Landon Donovan and DaMarcU.S. Beasley are on the squad again. There were 7 players removed from the team. These were defenders Heath Pearce and Chad Marshall; midfielders Alejandro Bedoya, Sacha Kljestan and Robbie Rogers; and forwards Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching.

Donovan, Beasley, and defender Steve Cherundolo will be playing in their third World Cup in 2010. Most of the players on the U.S. roster are from Europe. In fact, 17 of the 23 players have been playing in Europe. There are 4 players from the MLS and 2 from Mexican teams. Eight of the players have been playing in England, three in Germany, 2 in Scotland, and one particular in Italy, France, Norway and Denmark.

The United States are listed at 52-1, making them a long shot to win the World Cup. They are the second choice to win Group C behind England. England is the odds-on favorite at -325 while the U.S. is 4-1 to win Group C. Slovenia and Algeria are not expected to be a great deal of threat in that group. On Saturday, June 12th, the United States will kick off World Cup play against England. The U.S. is 470 to win the match, England is a -210 favorite and the Draw is 290.

The United States hosted the World Cup in 1994. It has not yet, however, won the tournament.

South Africa beat out Morocco and Egypt for the honor. The FIFA World Cup is held once every four years and features 32 teams from different nations competing against each other for the championship in football. This event has historically been dominated by Brazil, which holds a record five titles and is the only team to have played in every tournament. The current champion is Italy, which has won the title four times total. The next World Cup will be held in 2014 in Brazil.
